Brine Pool
"No brew I know rivals brine. Maybe I should steal some later." - The Brine Fiend
The Brine Pool is an aquatic Hardmode biome that features a diversity of enemies fitting in with its extremophiliac theme.
The Brine Pool always spawns within a Jungle biome, but not always with a clear entrance from the top.
It can be spotted from the presence of Baryte and an opening on its top so that the player can enter.
Within its shell, the Brine Pool is structured with open cells full of water that the player will have to swim through in order to explore deeper within.
While the player is inflicted with Toxic Shock when submerged in water nearby the Brine Pool, they will be unable to replenish their breath until no longer recieving Toxic Shock and out of water.
Furthermore, Baryte is impervious to any explosives.
Because of these factors, proper protection against Toxic Shock and preparation for water travel is advised before navigating the Brine Pool.
The Brine Pool features dangers beyond the hostile life that naturally spawns such as the Hydrothermal Vents and Venus Coral found within.
There is also a sort of "stealth" mechanic added called "ripples", which is how enemies found in the Brine Pool will detect you.
They are generated as you move through water and some enemies are more sensitive to your ripples than others.

Generation
Typical Brine Pool generation
The Brine Pool generates as a large oval-like shape with smaller cells within.
Each of the cells connect with an adjacent cell aside from a few which may remain isolated from the rest.
Some cells also connect to the top entrance, which is usually 12-20 tiles wide.
Peat Moss encompasses the inner regions of each cell, and Eitrite Ore will generate in veins within the Baryte shell.
Additionally, Brineglow vines will generate from the ceiling of each cell and illuminate a small area around them.
Some veins of Mildew will appear within Baryte as well, and spread along it serving as a miniature world evil for the Brine Pool.
It can be cleansed using Purification Powder.
Lastly, Hydrothermal Vents and Venus Coral will spawn in cells to add additional hazards for the player to avoid.
Notes
Brine Pool food chain
- Enemies in the Brine Pool (with the exception of Leaf Snappers) are able to attack prey and predator alike as the Brine Pool has its very own food chain.
Despite how tough Brine Pool enemies are, they often attack each other which could leave them weakened for the player to finish them off.
Tips
- When swimming in the Brine Pool, it is recommended to use Antisolve Potions and Skimswim Potions.
Antisolve Potions can prevent you from receiving Toxic Shock while Skimswim Potions prevent you from generating ripples.
Trivia
- The Brine Pool was originally planned to be a large drop off not too dissimilar to its current entrance and have a brine cloud overlay over the player's screen, which would then inflict Toxic Shock.
It also had a separate section off to the right that would lead to a temple-like area called "The Ruins", which has been removed for another mod idea later down the line.
