Defiled Relay
The Defiled Relay is a floating, pillar-like background object found in the Defiled Wastelands Underground. A world with the Defiled features several Defiled Relays, and destroying three of them (in a single world) summons the Defiled Amalgamation for the player to fight. This can be done using any hammer or explosive. Defiled Relays emit a faint, white light,but emit a brighter light whenever they are actively relaying messages. They are the Defiled counterpart to the Corruption's Shadow Orbs or the Crimson's Crimson Hearts.
Defiled Relays also increase enemy spawn rates for the player when they are struck with an insufficient hammer or when they are nearby.
Consequences of destruction
- Each Defiled Relay drops items when destroyed.
The first will always drop the Kruncher accompanied with 100 Musket Balls, of which satisfies the criteria for the Arms Dealer to move in.
- Destroying at least one Relay fulfills one of the two criteria for a Goblin Army to attack (having at least 200 health is the other requirement).
- The third Defiled Relay destroyed summons the aforementioned Defiled Amalgamation, which spawns after the player reaches the surface.
The Defiled Amalgamation is re-summoned with every third Relay destroyed.
- Each Relay has a separate 50% chance of immediately causing a meteorite to fall when destroyed between midnight (12:00 AM) and dawn (4:30 AM).
Destroying any number of Relays between dawn and midnight will only allow one 50% chance of a meteorite falling the following midnight.
- Once a Defiled Relay is destroyed, the Traveling Merchant has a chance to sell the Revolver.
Messages
The following status messages appear upon destruction of the Defiled Relays:
- First Relay: "Your body suddenly aches everywhere..."
- Second Relay: "Rattling emanates from the walls..."
- Third Relay: "The skies echo a threatening call..."
Sometime after the Defiled Amalgamation spawns:
- "Defiled Amalgamation has awoken!"
In addition to the summoning messages, Defiled Relays also relay messages in Morse code. These messages have different conditions explained alongside their listings below:
Security dialogue relayed when the player is nearby:
- Here.
- Found.
- Send anti-bodies.
- Threat.
- Terrarian.
- Relay 2, foreign body.
- Relay 5, initiate protocol.
Idle:
- All conditions optimal.
- Hey. M-y memories.
- Not more than our pet. Keep them occupied.
- Intruder present shortly. Remain alert.
- Day becomes progressively suboptimal.
- Motivated, dopamine release next cycle.
- File is missing. Not yet.
- Absolution upon us.
Being struck with an insufficient hammer:
- Stop.
- This hurts us.
- Alert core system.
- Distress.
- You will regret.
